Visit an artistic culture that dates back thousands of years.

This is the studio home of artist Charles Stewart and his wife Mary Lou, who arrived from Taos, New Mexico in 1986. About his art, Stewart says, "painting is life: it is for the artist to make paint and canvas live. It does not matter whether it be recognizable in concept but in execution, the work must come alive."

The gallery specializes in figurative and abstract paintings and sculptures, representing both internationally renowned masters such as Manuel Felguérez, José Luis Cuevas, and Juan Soriano, as well as a variety of younger artists who show extraordinary talent and promise.

This dramatic, tri-level gallery with its large, open and modern interior and state-of-the-art lighting and hanging systems has an impressive collection of original paintings. Ida herself asserts that the art displayed in her gallery strongly reflects the strength, spirit and versatility of the Mexican character.

Opened in 1995, the Copes hold regular shows throughout the season for regional artists including Derek Bruckner, Gloria Marie V. among others, along with their own work, the shows feature an eclectic and inspired collection of representational, contemporary and abstract art.

This is Baja’s largest art gallery, with more than 2,000 original paintings from every region of Mexico. It is a perfect place to find art portraying the spectacular beauty of Mexican scenery as well as the warmth of the Mexican people and their culture.
